01 — Profile

What I do, in one paragraph

I design surfaces that a mill can actually make. My work starts in archives and sketchbooks, then moves quickly into repeat, colourway and technical file, so the studio and the factory are reading the same document.

I am happiest on collections where drawing, yarn choice and costing have to be decided together, and I like being the person who keeps that conversation honest between design, sampling and production.

Focus

  • Woven upholstery and contract-grade constructions
  • Print repeats, scale studies and colourway systems
  • Colour management from handloom to bulk dye lot

02 — Experience

Studio and mill roles

Three positions across a commercial weaving house, a print studio and a small mill.

2022 — Present

Senior Surface Designer

Fold & Flax Textiles · Remote, UK

  • Lead the seasonal upholstery collection from research board through to approved production handover.
  • Rebuilt the print and weave library so sampling, sales and the mill work from one versioned source of truth.
  • Run colour approvals with two dye houses, setting tolerances that hold across repeat orders.
  • Mentor two junior designers through repeat construction, technical files and mill correspondence.

2019 — 2022

Print & Pattern Designer

Halcyon Weaving Co. · Hybrid

  • Drew and digitised repeats for wallcovering and drapery, working to fixed screen and rotary constraints.
  • Translated archive fragments into commercial families without losing the hand of the original.
  • Introduced a scale and proofing checklist that cut avoidable strike-off rounds.

2016 — 2019

Junior Textile Designer

Marlow Mill Studio · On site

  • Dressed the sample loom, logged constructions and kept the yarn and blanket archive usable.
  • Prepared colourway options and specification sheets for senior designers and buyers.

03 — Selected work

Three projects that show the method

Woven collection · 2025

Quarry Weave

A six-cloth upholstery family built from quarry-face photographs. Slub and flat yarns were paired so one construction could carry a whole tonal range instead of splitting into separate qualities.

Wallcovering · 2024

Field Notes

A hand-drawn botanical repeat scaled for tall contract walls. Three pass-heights were tested on site before the drop was locked, which kept the drawing legible at room distance.

The Slow Cloth Index

Archive · Taxonomy · Documentation

An internal index of the studio's cloth archive: every sample photographed, tagged by construction, fibre and dye route, and cross-referenced to the season it shipped in. It began as a personal notebook and is now how the team answers "have we made something like this before" in minutes rather than an afternoon in the sample room.

06 — Contact

Open to lead design conversations

I am happy to talk through a collection brief, a stalled repeat, or a colour approval process that keeps slipping. A short note about the work is the best place to start.
